The exercise, involves a multi-agency task force mandated to clear unauthorised structures and trading spaces that contribute to congestion and obstruct the smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles.

The operation is expected to continue over several months as part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to improve the organisation of commercial activities, restore order in public spaces and create a safer and more accessible environment for residents, traders and other road users.

Illegal structures and unauthorised trading activities in busy commercial areas can create difficulties for pedestrians, affect traffic flow and make it challenging for emergency and service vehicles to move freely. The decongestion exercise is therefore intended to address these concerns and promote the effective use of public spaces within the municipality.

The involvement of a multi-agency task force is expected to support the enforcement process and strengthen coordination among the relevant authorities as the exercise progresses.

The Assembly’s initiative also highlights the importance of maintaining orderly market spaces and ensuring that trading activities are conducted in designated areas. A well-organised commercial environment can improve accessibility, promote sanitation and contribute to the overall appearance and development of Nkawkaw.

As the exercise continues, cooperation among traders, shop owners, residents and the relevant authorities will be important to ensure its success and prevent the re-emergence of unauthorised structures and trading activities.

The decongestion exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to promote effective urban management and improve conditions within Nkawkaw’s busy commercial areas.
