The exercise was in partnership with some organisations including Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Information Services Department and other institutions such as the Ghana National Fire Services, Ghana Police Service, Ambulance Services and the Bureau of National Investigations.
This nationwide exercise which has been sponsored by the Ministry of Local Government is been carried out today in most of the districts and municipalities in the country.
The day-long exercise began in the early hours of the day after being preceded by public announcements which called for the closure of business and the markets.
The exercise commenced with the disinfection of the Kintampo day markets and the central market. The state Transport Company’s (STC) rest stop yard, as well as the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) lorry terminals, were all disinfected as part of the exercise.
Not limited to the Municipal capital as well. Some major towns in the municipality as including New Longoro market, communities markets along the Tamale road and markets along the Kunsu road among others.
Soliciting the views of some indigenes of the municipality, they expressed worry as most indigenes through this whole exercise was part of the partial lockdown instituted in Accra and Kumasi. Yet another sentiment was that of those who were looking forward to seeing the disinfection exercise being carried out on the principal streets of the municipal capital.
All in all, the exercise was successful with authorities still calling for calm and asking the general public to adhere to COID-19 protocols such as hand washing, social distancing and above all staying at home.
