The event, which brought together various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) from across the region, provided a platform not only for athletic competition but also for strengthening ties and collaboration among the participating assemblies.
Throughout the festival, AMA engaged in a series of friendly yet competitive sporting events, including soccer, the sack race, penalty shootouts, and the lime and spoon race, allowing staff to interact with their counterparts from other assemblies, enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.
The festival also provided an opportunity for AMA to showcase its talents and sportsmanship. While the Assembly celebrated a notable victory in the lime and spoon race, where Marian Quaye of Central Administration secured the only win for AMA; the Assembly also faced challenges in other events.
The men’s soccer team, for instance, put up a strong effort but was ultimately eliminated after a narrow defeat and a goalless draw in their matches against La Dade-Kotopon and Korle Klottey Municipal Assemblies, respectively.
Despite these challenges, the festival was seen as a success in terms of building camaraderie and establishing stronger ties with other assemblies.
Speaking after the event, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, emphasised the importance of such events in building relationships beyond the usual administrative collaborations.
"The LGS Sports Festival is more than just a competition; it is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between sister assemblies. Through these interactions, we share experiences, learn from each other, and build a network of support that ultimately benefits our respective communities," she said.
Looking ahead, the Mayor assured the AMA's commitment to further enhance its relationships with sister assemblies through continued participation in such events and other collaborative initiatives.
"Our participation in the LGS Sports Festival has not only brought us closer to our sister assemblies but has also highlighted areas where we can work together to improve and excel," Mayor Sackey said.
The AMA team’s participation was supported by Key officials, including the AMA Director of Finance, Mr. Abeeku, Amissah, Head of the Waste Management Department, Ing. Solomon Noi, Agric Director, Kojo Fynn, Head of Public Relations, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Assembly members, representatives from the Mayor's office, and staff who were present to encourage and cheer on the team.
