WENCHI: MCE hands over completed projects to Istiqaama, Koase SHSs

Two 6-Seater Toilet facilities and 6-Unit Classroom Block has been completed and handed over to Istiqaama and Koase Senior Schools respectively, for use.

The projects, constructed by Sweet Mat Company Limited as the Contractor and Consultant DAOVTECH, were the initiatives of the Member of Parliament and Minister for Planning as part of his Educational Developments Initiative over the years to continually provide and strengthen infrastructural and life-changing developments to improve education in the Wenchi Municipality.

Handing over the facilities to the beneficiary schools, the Municipal Chief Executive Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie indicated that the Nana Addo - Bawumiah led government's Free Senior High School Policy was premised on three objectives thus Accessibility, Equity, and Quality.

"Education in the country is going through a lot of reforms of generally accepted standards and best international practices, so as to rub shoulders and fit into any global society", the MCE said.



Government, he noted, would never sacrifice the future of our wards for any political interest. He impelled political critics who see nothing right, just for selfish political expediency, despite laud applause from the international community, to advise themselves and support the Free SHS policy with good conscience since it did not benefit only the children of one political party but Ghanaians in a whole.

The Chief Executive stressed that the government really meant business in providing decent accommodation and a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning, hence the construction of emergency infrastructural projects to eliminate the innovative Double Track System introduced in order to ensure no senior high school going age was left out. He advised the students to pass the exams with ease, as the first batch of the Free SHS Policy in order to give hope and confidence to the next batch and make the government's investments rewarding.



The Municipal Director for Education Maame Efua Amoah said "education is the bedrock of development, no society and nation can develop without education". She added her voice to the call on the final years to pass the WASSCE.

The Koasehene Nana Owusu Ansah Beseah Sasraku II disclosed that the intention of Nananom and the school management to name some facilities after some prominent individuals who have contributed to the development of the school.



The Headmaster of Istiqaama SHS said the 12 Seater Toilet facility for the school would help curb open defecation in the school by the students.

The Headmistress of Koase SHS Nancy Arthur expressed appreciation to the government for massive infrastructural projects in the school.

The students of both schools expressed their joy and spoke to the news team, saying the facilities were timely.
