With vast fertile lands estimated at about 169.25 square kilometres, the district has become a major production zone for crops such as cassava, maize, pineapple, coconut, citrus, and vegetables, while also gaining recognition for the cultivation of high-value non-traditional export crops including Asian vegetables, chilli pepper, and bird-eye pepper.

Agriculture currently employs about 12,075 people across the district, with men accounting for 60 percent of the farming population while women make up 40 percent, highlighting the sector’s critical role in job creation and household income generation.

Stakeholders say the district’s favourable ecology and growing interest in commercial farming continue to position Gomoa Central as a strategic contributor to food production and agribusiness development in the region.

Despite most farmers operating on a subsistence scale, agricultural activities remain the backbone of the district’s economy, supporting local markets and supplying produce to neighbouring districts and urban centres.

Residents and agricultural officers are optimistic that increased investment in modern farming techniques, irrigation, agro-processing, and market access could unlock massive economic opportunities and transform Gomoa Central into a major agro-industrial enclave.
