The bridge is expected to replace the current wooden one which has become a death trap for several years.

The well-attended grounds-breaking ceremony was in response to several appeals made by the residents of the area to the government to help fix this age-old problem.

The project which is part of the One Million Dollar, One Constituency package of government is to be undertaken under the Coastal Development Authority (CODA).

The current wooden footbridge has become a great nuisance to thousands of residents who use the bridge from Atiavi, Agorvinu, Lawosime, and Agorbledokui for economic and commercial activities including fishing which is the main occupation of the inhabitants. The bridge has over the years posed serious challenges to pregnant women and school children who use this route to school and also to access healthcare.

The project is costing the government some Four Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc475,000.00). The MCE for the area, Hon. Godwin Effah assured the residents that the project would be completed by the end of November, this year.

According to him, funds for the new bridge are available, adding that the Contractor would move to the site in the next few days to begin work. ‘The concrete bridge construction is a reality and we are meeting the needs of the people at the right time under Nana Addo who is a game-changer’, Hon. Effah emphasized.

The NPP Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Keta Constituency in the 2020 elections, Dr. Benjamin Dzameshie described the event as unique, saying the NPP has the interest of the people at heart. He urged the people to retain the President and the NPP in power, stating that a vote for Nana Addo and the NPP would mean more development for the area in the next four years.

A number of residents who spoke to our news team expressed joy about the kick-start of the project at last. According to the former Assembly Member (AM) for Agorvinu, Mr. Dziekpor Kattah, the present AM as well as other residents, the project is indeed a major breakthrough for them since it would go a long way to improve all their economic and other related activities downstream and beyond.

The ground-breaking ceremony was jointly performed by the MCE, the NPP PC for the area, and the former Assembly Member for the Electoral Area.
