KMA to embark on rehabilitation Programme

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will soon embark on a massive rehabilitation programme to put into shape all dilapidated classroom blocks and resource some identified deprived basic schools in the Metropolis.

The programme, which would be carried out in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Directorate of Education, is to help provide conducive and child-friendly atmosphere to enhance teaching and learning and encourage children to remain in school.

Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, the Chief Executive of KMA, made this known when he visited some schools in the Metropolis to mark this year's First Day at School.

The Chief Executive, who was accompanied the Metropolitan Director of Education, Madam Martha Owusu Agyeman, the Education Sub-Committee and some assembly members, visited Danyame M/A Basic School, Santasi M/A Basic School, Adumanu M/A Basic School, New-Tafo-Dechemso Primary and Junior High schools and Najahiya Islamic Basic School.

He presented assorted soft drinks,confectionaries, some teaching and learning materials as well as school sandals to the pupils.

Mr Assibey Antwi welcomed the new entrants and advised them to take their studies seriously.

They should use their time profitably and spend less time watching television, he said.

Mr Assibey Antwi commended the schools for planting more trees on their compounds and encouraged them to do more to green and beautify their environment.

He appealed to financial institutions, corporate organisations and philanthropists to assist the Assembly to resource and put some of the bad classroom blocks into good shape.

He said an essay competition would soon be organised for junior high school (SHS) students on the topic: Keeping the city clean and green, and those who would excel would receive awards.

Madam Martha Owusu-Agyeman, the Metropolitan Director of Education, advised the children to take advantage of the Free SHS Policy initiated by the Government and aspire to be in the SHS.

Madam Beatrice Frimpomaa, the Head Teacher of Adumanu Basic School, called on the Assembly to help complete some unfinished projects in the School.
