Sissala West District in desperate need of teachers

The Sissala West District in the Upper West Region is in desperate need of over 400 teachers to overturn its consistent poor performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The District, which has been performing abysmally for the past three years in the BECE, need to have this teacher gap addressed to bring hope back to Junior High School students who are heading towards their BECE.

Mr. Moses Dramani Luri, the Sissala West District Chief Executive, who was interacting with the media in Wa, said the Assembly was trying its best to address the issue by supporting the training of teachers and putting them under bond to come back and serve in the District.

He said the Assembly's effort alone was not enough to solve the huge teacher gap and called on education authorities to consider posting more teachers to the district.

The interaction was part of efforts to foster closer working relationship with the media to help put the district on the spotlight to attract investors and it brought together almost all of the journalists in the Upper West Region.

On successes, Mr. Luri mentioned expansion of health and educational infrastructure, supported training of midwives and nurses and strong relationship with traditional rulers in the district.

On security, the DCE mentioned the cross border meetings with security officials from Burkina Faso and police patrols as measures taken to reduce the spate of armed robbery in the district.

Mr. Luri said a lot of work was also going on to improve the road network to open up the district to the rest and enhance economic activities that would lead to an improvement in the quality of life of the people.
