Berekum West District Assembly inaugurated at Jinini

MR. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister has inaugurated the newly created Berekum West District with its capital at Jinijini.

The new district which is created in accordance with the 1992 Constitution and Local Governance Act, 2016, ACT 936, was carved out of the Berekum Municipal Assembly.

In his inaugural address Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh said the Assemblies areas focal areas for the government rural and urban agenda. He entreated all the stakeholders to be focused, committed and pursue the agenda of development with one purpose, while government spearheads the efforts of accelerating and sustaining decentralization.

The Minister also urged the people to make the decentralization agenda work by minimizing agitations on siting of district capitals, election of presiding members, appointment of government appointees, chief executives and provision of critical facilities in parts of the communities.


Daasebere Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, Omanhene and President of Berekum Traditional Council thanked the President, Nana Akuffo-Addo for creating Berekum West District and said inauguration marks a new transformation to the people of Jinijini and its environs.

He advised the people to take opportunities that the new district will bring to them. He urged the youth to stop ‘sakawa’ and take their education serious to full benefit from job opportunities which may accompany the creation of the new district.



Daasebere Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, drew the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister’s attention on infrastructure deficit Berekum and the new district face, particularly poor road network. He appealed to the Minister to deliver the message to the President for the districts to get befitting infrastructure.

Nana Baffour Tutu Asare, the Chief of Jinijini noted that for the new district to develop there should be unity, revenue mobilization with well instituted revenue mobilization measures and honesty to use the resources for the intended purpose and called for proper auditing, and accountability on duty bearers.

The 28 Assembly Members of the newly created Berekum West District Assembly, comprising 19 elected and 9 government appointees were sworn into office for the next four years by His Worship Narh Awah, the District Magistrate for the Berekum District Court.



The inauguration was well organized and exciting. The Exciting nature of the ceremony enthused the Regional Minister to open the floor with the 2005 location hit song "Yefiri Tuonodom the capital town ne Gyengyene" with the label "Nkasei". The people said it was a dream come true.

In another development, the Regional Minister Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh inspected two abandoned police quarters meant to accommodate officers of the Ghana Police Service in Berekum by the former President I.K Acheampong in 1972 and vowed to complete the two projects.



He promised discussing the projects and writing to the appropriate quarters for action to be taken.
