The confirmation, which took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Assembly Hall in Berekum, saw all 38 members of the Assembly vote "YES" in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Prince Adade, the Assembly Member for the Kutre Number Two Electoral Area, was elected as the new Presiding Member of the Assembly. He secured 33 "yes" votes after his only contender, Mr. Bright Yamoah, the Assembly Member for the Awerempe Electoral Area, voluntarily withdrew from the race.
In her acceptance speech, an elated Hajia Abubakar expressed profound gratitude to President Mahama for the nomination and to the Assembly Members for their overwhelming endorsement. She pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders, particularly the Assembly Members and traditional authorities, to accelerate the development of the municipality. "I am committed to bringing everyone on board. This is not about politics; it is about the progress of Berekum East," she stated.
Hajia Abubakar, who previously served as an Assembly Member for the Zongo Electoral Area, brings a wealth of local governance experience to her new role. Her appointment is seen as a significant milestone for gender representation in the Bono Region's local government structure.
