Denkyembour Assembly 33,000 oil palm seedlings

The Denkyembour District Assembly will next year, distribute 33,000 oil palm seedlings free of charge to farmers in the district.

It is to enable the farmers to expand their farms or start new oil palm farms and plantations. This was announced by the District Chief Executive, Mr Seth Birikorang Ofosu at the district celebration of the national farmer’s day at Dwenase.

He said the district assembly was determined to help farmers embark on massive cultivation of oil palm and was therefore nursing another 33,000 seedlings immediately the first batch of seedlings had been distributed.

Mr Ofosu described the free oil palm seedlings distribution as part of the districts contribution to the government’s programme of planting for export and rural development. The District Chief Executive said the best district farmer prize, which was a bicycle last year, had been improved to a motorized tricycle this year.

He promised that by 2020 a bigger prize would be offered.
The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Madam Mercy Adu Gyamfi praised Ghanaian farmers for their hard work which had resulted in excellent harvest of all kinds of foodstuff this year.

She said apart from the on-going reconstruction of the Akwatia town roads, 22 communities have been surveyed and would soon be connected to the national electricity grid.
Ms Gyemfi said the road between Bodua and Dwenase would be improved.

Mr George Kwame Larbi, 60, of Takrowase was adjudged overall district best farmer and received one motorized tricycle, Men’s kente cloth, a Jacto knapsack spraying machine and a Nulux manual knapsack sprayer.

The best woman farmer, Madam Comfort Ogogoe, 66, received a double decker fridge and Jacto knapsack, Nulux manual sprayers and a kente cloth, among others, donated by the MP for Akwatia.
