Planting for Food and Jobs is a leading flagship agric programme of current NPP government which is aimed at ensuring food security and also transforming the country’s agriculture sector.

The programme, according to the government, will among other things encourage the youth to desist from migrating elsewhere in search of non-existent jobs.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the DCE disclosed that, the programme which commenced last year had already led to the creation of about 1200 jobs in the District, adding that more could be created if the youth took Agric-business more seriously.

He said the Food and Agriculture Budgetary Support (FABS) project is in existence to provide agriculture input to farmers to increase production and posts-harvest management in the district.

He further indicated most recent intervention by the government to help sustain the flagship programme includes interventions where farmers could buy a bag of fertilizer and other farm inputs at half-price.

According to him, a large quantity of fertilizer, maize and rice coupons have been distributed to farmers in the area.
