The ‘one district, one warehouse’ programme is one of the initiatives by the current government for the agriculture sector in its quest to modernize agriculture and improve food security, by reducing post-harvest losses which usually affects returns of farmers.

It is hoped that with increased food production emerging from other initiatives such as Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ), Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), Fertilizer Subsidies, and Improved Seeds, there was the need to create an avenue to store food excesses, hence the warehouse concept comes in handy.

And government has actually sponsored the construction of the warehouse in line with its vision.

This initiative will stabilize food prices as farmers will not be forced to sell all their farm produce at give-away prices as a result of lack of storage facilities.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, Anthony Avogbegbedor at the tour of the facility expressed satisfaction at the rate of work done so far, and commended the contractor for working on schedule and on plan.

He met an almost completed project with few finishing including laying of pavement blocks and rest of painting being carried out.

He assured that the facility would not lie idle when completed.

The facility which was started last year in July according to officials has taken less than a year to get to this level.

Situated at Dzodze, the Municipal capital, officials disclosed that even though the facility would be used to store all forms of farm produce, the main focus would be on the grains, which are major crops produce in the area.
