Sefwi J: Assembly distributes 31,500 oil palm seedlings to farmers

The Sefwi Juaboso District Assembly have distributed 31,500 seedlings of oil palm to about 250 registered farmers within the district which will cover 525 acres of land.

Speaking with the District Director of agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Esiape said, the project was done under the government's flagship program of Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD).

Due to the favorable environmental condition of the District for oil palm cultivation, the district chose oil palm production.


He added that the motive for the project is to reduce over reliance of farmers on cocoa as the only source of livelihood. He added that, this oil Palm production is going to support the government's 1 district 1factory program in Juaboso.

During the distribution, the District Chief Executive for Juaboso, Mrs. Martha Kwayie Manu at the distribution ceremony said, modern agriculture practice require the use of modern technology to reduce the drudgery farmers go through with traditional implements.


She also said it was only by the use of modern technology and farm implement that farmers could increase acreages and yield of crops as well as add value to the product.


Some of the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the government, the DCE and the Agriculture directors for their support.
