We Can Produce More—Juaboso DCE Encourages Farmers

According to her, the Juaboso District’s capacity to produce food by cultivating the arable lands is yet to be fully realized. In her key note address at the 33rd District Farmers’ Day held at Sefwi Kofikrom, the DCE advised farmers’ to take advantage of the “Farming for Foods and Jobs” program introduced by the Nana Akufu-Addo government to improve on Agriculture to feed the growing population and create jobs for the teaming youths of the country.
“To me, this is possible for our farmers and fishermen to produce more to feed our growing population. In increasing yield per unit area, there is a need for our farmers to adopt improved methods of agriculture namely: the use of improved seeds with high yielding potentials and the use of fertilizers to improve the soil fertility", She stated.
She further stated that government has employed about Two Thousand (2000) Agriculture Extension officers of which Six (6) has been posted to the Juaboso District to provide Agriculture assistance to farmers in the application of farming inputs and improving on the best practices to increase yields.
“I wish to emphasize that, adhering to these prudent policies and interventions by the New Patriotic Party government will reduce, if not prevent migration of the youths from rural areas to the cities in search of non-existing jobs. We will also reduce significantly the importation of foodstuff from neighboring countries” she added.
Over 15 farmers within the District were awarded on the day with Mr. Affum Kroko, Mr. Anthony Owusu Adu, Andrews Asiedu Ennin emerging as Overall Best farmer, first runner up and second runner up respectively.
Also in attendance was the Member of Parliament, for the Juaboso Constituency, Kwabena Minta Akandor Chief of Sefwi Kofikrom, Nana Nukwabour II who also doubled as the chairman for the occasion and many other traditional leaders.
