Akontombra district assembly holds maiden meet the press

The Sefwi-Akontombra District assembly of the Western North Region has held its maiden meet the press to account to the people what the district assembly has done so far and the way forward.

The well-organized programme was attended by departmental heads, traditional authorities, cross section of the public and party representatives.

Mr Yawson Amoah, district chief executive who took the participants through the development projects executed in the district in the past three years, said the assembly has been able to put up a CHIPS compound with nurses quarters at Yawkrom and Tumuda respectively, adding that the Nsawora health center was being worked on to give it a face lift.

He said 12 communities have also benefited from a 20 seater toilet facility each.

On education, Mr. Amoah said the assembly has constructed a six unit classroom block each at Nkwadum, Bokaso and Adawumensah Communities.

He said the assembly was constructing 72 market stalls at Nsawora, 20 unit market stalls at Akontombra and would construct 22 market sheds at kramokrom.

Mr Amoah said a total of 1,248 youth have been engaged in youth in afforestation programme with 32 community police assistance and 52 persons been employed under NABCO.

The DCE indicated that under the one million dollars per constituency programme, 20 communities benefited from mechanized boreholes while the kojokrom community had a teachers quarters.

Mr Amoah said under the persons with disabilities programme a total of 36 deep freezers, hand dryers, fufu ponding machines have been supplied to persons with disabilities in the district, in addition to a cash donation to more than 150 persons to help improve upon their living standards.

The assembly he said has reshaped major feeder roads in the district whiles the construction of 49 kilometer Bopa junction to Akontombra road was on going and is expected to be completed in June next year.

Mr Amoah mentioned the nonpayment of taxes and levies by the citizenry as the major challenges facing the assembly and called on traditional authorities to educate their people on the need to fulfill their tax obligations to ensure accelerated development in the district in the various communities.
