Fetish Priest in Police custody over colleague’s death

The police in Berekum have arrested and placed in custody a thirty-two (32) year old fetish priest, Obeng Kwaku, from Senase in the Berekum municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, for allegedly poisoning his colleague priest and linguist with laced wine, resulting in their instantaneous death.

According to reports gathered in the town, buttressed by police reports, the deceased priest, Yeboah Prince, 34, and his linguist, Kwame Ofori, 25, from Aworowa, near Techiman, died shortly after drinking the suspected toxic wine offered by the accused priest.

Three other friends of the host, according to an insider, were victimized critically and, have since been admitted to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital, responding to treatment.

In a tete-a-tete interview with the police at the Berekum main charge office Thursday afternoon, Detective Inspector Stephen Paul Dapaah disclosed that the deceased fetish priest and his linguist met their untimely death the previous night ater trekking down from Aworowa to Senase, a suburb of Berekum, Wednesday afternoon under the invitation of the host priest to grace and climax the 'Yam Festival' he had organised since Monday.

The Detective inspector further told your authoritative 'ghanadistricts.com' that Obeng Kwaku did not only invite Prince with Ofori but also invited other colleagues and friends of his, including the 3 other victims, Kofi Isaac, Kwame Febiri and Mandela Baffuor, 26, who are currently on admission at the hospital, to climax the festival.

Continuing with the facts of the case, Inspector Dapaah maintained that after the final activities of that day to climax the whole festivity on Wednesday, libation was performed in accordance with tradition; they took in drinks, beverages, after which the deceased who planned to visit Prince's father staying in the same town, were bidden farewell by the accused priest.

He revealed according to his investigation machinery that shortly after taking in the drinks, 6.00 p.m. thereafter, the drinkers started vomiting seemingly uncontrollably.

The police investigations further revealed that no sooner had the victims been sent to the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum than the visiting priest, Yeboah Prince, and his linguist, Kwame Ofori, whose condition was in advance state, died shortly on arrival.

As of press time, out of the 3 other victims on admission, only one, Kofi Isaac, had been able to furnish the police with his statement to help them critically look into the matter.

The accused Fetish Priest, Obeng Kwaku, who offeed the drinks was subsequently rounded up by the Berekum police and placed in their custody assisting investigations, whilst the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
