BEREKUM: Alleged drug addict stabs father dead

A 25 year old drug addict from Mpatabo near Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region is alleged to have stabbed his 67 year old father, a sub chief of the village, to death in his own residence at Zaab Zongo, a suburb village of Berekum.

The deceased chief (Kyidomhene), Nana Kwabena Amoako, is suspected to have been killed by his own biological son, Kwabena Enoch, at midnight of February 14, this year within a pouch leading to his room when the latter inflicted multiple wounds on him.

Granting an interview to your authoritative "ghanadistricts.com", a younger brother of the deceased, Stephen Amponsah, emphasized that the suspect who took to his heels soon after committing the heinous crime, is a hardened drug addict who is used to taking in multiples of hard drugs such as marijuana, 'tramor' and the likes.

Mr Amponsah added that the suspect, Enoch, the only child privileged to reside in the same house with the father and a tenant - a young lady, has the habit of misbehaving towards people particularly his late father any time he is under the influence of drugs.

He revealed further that Enoch, after getting intoxicated that fateful night, brutally assaulted his father, when he stabbed him at the back of his head, went ahead to pierce the neck with the weapon (knife) he wielded and further slashed his nose as he fell miserably.

Rushing the victim to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital, according to close relatives of his, he was pronounced dead and has since been placed at the mortuary pending autopsy.

The family members confirmed the incidence and indicated that a formal complaint has been lodged with the charge office of the Berekum Police Service whilst an intense search party, led by Nananom, and comprising the Assembly Member of the area and the Unit Committee members, is conducting a man hunt of the suspect, Kwabena Enoch, who is still on the run.

As of press time, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Dapaa of the Berekum Police Station, who spoke briefly with Ghanadistricts.com from the mortuary, was anxiously scrutinizing the nitty gritty of the murder case to ascertain the substance of the whole barbaric act.
