The Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA) has held its first public hearing for the 2018 fee fixing resolution at Kpone on Sea.

The public hearing was held in accordance with the Local Government Act 2016 which enjoins district assemblies to consult with stakeholders in the determination of fees and rates to be paid by them to enable the assemblies accrue the needed revenues to embark on developmental projects.

The meeting was attended by landlords, artisans, traders, opinion leaders, unit committee members, company representatives and business operators among others.

Mr Mohammed Yakubu, Kpone-Katamanso District Coordinating Director, who gave the keynote address on behalf of the District Chief Executive, said it was important that the Assembly reached a consensus with the stakeholders before fees were fixed for the year 2018.

Mr Yakubu added that stakeholders were an integral part of the local government system therefore his outfit could not fix the fees without their needed contributions.

Mr Noble Atsu, KKDA’s Budget Officer, encouraged residents to religiously pay their rates and fees as that would provide the Assembly with needed resources to provide developmental projects in their communities.

Mr Atsu stated that even though the KKDA received some funds from central government, it was not enough to cater for the numerous developmental needs of the District.

He asked residents to pay their rates promptly to increase the internally generated funds of the Assembly.

Mrs, Ivy Oduro Kwateng, Planning Officer at KKDA, on her part, outlined the developmental projects the Assembly had embarked on since its creation, giving the assurance that all ongoing projects would be completed on schedule.

Participants deliberated and presented recommendations to the Assembly on developmental issues and rates and fees to be fixed by the officials.
