The areas where attack occurred on farms include Boasu, Agubie, Kwame Pensang, Seikrom as well as Buoku and its surrounding communities.

The worms is said to feed on the leaves and part of maize the tussle grows from in the plant living a lot of fecal waste on the plant. The worms eat the leaves and bore into the sterm.

The I S D had an interview with the Municipal Director of MOFA Mr. Osei Adade who disclosed to us the presence of the worms on some farms in the afore mentioned areas in the municipality.

He mentioned that major planting season such as this time, does not attract major maize plantation otherwise the devastation would have been severer. He added that major maize cultivation is done during the minor season.

All famers whose farms have been attack have been asked to spray it. If the insects stay for a month all farm will be gone he added. He maintained that the attack on farms could lead to a decline in the production this year.

Mr. Adade expressed worry about the reluctance of some farmers in spraying their farms adding that farmers preferred to live the farms to the mercies of the weather than spending on them for proper yield.

He added that farmers through AGRIC Extension officers and radio talk shows on the local radio station have been taught a lot of best farm practices and it just needed their application to their day to day farm activities.

His outfit he noted has already notified their authorities on the prevalence of the worms.
