Minister cautions Agric officials against selling subsidized fertilizers

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has cautioned Agric officials against conniving with Agro dealers to sell subsidized fertilizers to farmers at higher prices or face the full wrath of the laws.

He stated that such practices do not only amount to stealing from the nation’s coffers but also sabotage the government’s relentless efforts to make agriculture attractive and to improve the livelihood of farmers.

The Agric Minister was speaking in Techiman on Wednesday, when he paid a working visit to the Bono East region.

Dr. Akoto commended the regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan for his efforts towards seed security in the area.

Nana Owusu Gyare II, Akwamuhene of Techiman Traditional Council noted the region’s sterling efforts in plant and animal farming, producing food stuffs like tubers, rice, vegetables and fruits, as well as cash crops especially cashew and cocoa and appealed to the government to support farmers in the area.

He also urged the government to make the sector lucrative to encourage youth participation.
