The policies and interventions encompass the full agricultural food chain and the creation of additional businesses and job opportunities in areas of storage, transport, processing, packaging and marketing of Agricultural produce, all of which will ensure that farmers and fisher folks earn higher incomes.
One of such programmes, is the popular ‘Planting for food and jobs’ flagship programme by the government which is aimed at tackling the country’s twin problem of migration of youth to cities in search of non-existing jobs as well as ending the disgraceful spectacle of Ghana importing food stuffs from neighboring countries.
Planting for Food and Jobs is anchored on five pillars and they are:
• the provision of improved seeds
• the supply of fertilizers
• the provision of dedicated extension officers
• a marketing strategy and
• the Use of e-agriculture
