BUILSA S: Work to commence on 10 irrigation dams

Plans are far advanced for work to commence on 10 irrigation dams in the Builsa South district under the government’s flagship ‘one village one dam’ programme, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Mr Daniel Gariba has revealed.

According to him, a team of engineers are currently in the district to conduct feasibility studies of which contracts would be awarded for work to begin on the projects.

Some beneficiary communities, he noted, include Gbedema, Fumbisi, Kadema and Gbimbiisi.

The DCE, who revealed this to Ghanadistricts.com, was hopeful that the dams, when completed will significantly enhance farming activities in the district, adding that the move will also go a long way to raise crop production and improve livelihoods in the district.

Touching on the government’s ‘planting for food and jobs’ flagship programme, Mr Gariba noted that, the Assembly is focused on a large scale cashew plantations which will target both foreign and domestic markets.

Mr Gariba called on all to embrace the government’s agriculture programmes to boost food security and create jobs and wealth for the youth.
