Akufo-Addo suspends Sekondi Takoradi MCE

Acting on instruction from the President, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Mr Daniel Kweku Botwe, , has suspended the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Sekondi Takoradi, Mr Abdul Mumin Issah from office with immediate effect.

Mr Mumin Issah has been suspended after he was overheard in an audio recording which had since gone viral, hurling insults on a police officer who was performing his lawful duty at a snap check point at the Kwesimintsim cemetery.

His comments, according to the government in a statement signed and issued by the ministry, is unsavory and one that breaches its belief and hard work to ensure that the security Agencies are empowered and accorded the maximum respect to deliver on their core mandate.

“The comments by the Chief Executive run contrary to the government’s belief and work to ensure that our security agencies and indeed public agencies are resourced, empowered and accorded the respect to deliver on their mandates”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has been assigned to take charge of affairs of the Assembly until further notice.
