Due to that, the Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Anthony Avogbegbedor has created an initiative called Integrated Community Centre for employable skills (ICCES).
The institution is mainly for vocational and technical courses such as; building and construction, sewing, hair dressing, catering services, carpentry, electrical and many more.
In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the MCE disclosed that a non- government organisation (NGO) called Fafa Foundation has currently enrolled some shrine slaves popularly known as “trokosi” girls in to vocational skills training with full tuition and dormitory paid with school uniforms provided for them.
He added that most of these ‘trokosi’ girls were brought all the way from Keta, Akatsi and Denu.
Mr. Avorgbegbedor said the use of hard drugs and other illegal activities among the youth is quite alarming, so he created this initiative in order to curb it, and also create employment for them.
He added that, the project was funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and it is targeting about 400 youth within the municipality and its environs to directly train them.
