Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, the District Chief Executive, (DCE) said the initiative is aimed at getting the disabled to have knowledge in ICT to make them “fit for the job market.”
The DCE was interacting with persons with disabilities at New Abirim, on Wednesday, to know the challenges facing them and how best they could be helped.
Ms Frimpong said the Assembly would be organizing a programme in sign language for the hearing impaired who lacked knowledge in the sign language to help them communicate effectively with others.
Ms Frimpong said the assembly had so far disbursed GHC 56,200 out of GH¢ 82,105 allocated to persons with disabilities in the area, and urged other persons with disabilities to join the association so that they could also benefit from the fund.
She appealed to them to take active part in the Biometric Voter Registration when the exercise begins on March 24.
Meanwhile, Mr Kwasi Nyarko Aggrey, the District Social Welfare Officer, has disclosed that 170 persons living with disability in the area had received their share of the two percent of the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF).
The fund, he said, was to help care for their health and educational needs and also to enable them to engage in income generating
activities.
Mr Aggrey said the Government had now separated the disability fund from the DACF so the assembly had opened a separate bank account for it.
Mr Aggrey advised them to put an end to begging and rather channel their energies into profitable ventures.
