More Pupils Benefit as Berekum East Adds Five New Schools to School Feeding Programme

The Berekum East Municipal Assembly has expanded the Ghana School Feeding Programme within the municipality, increasing the number of beneficiary schools from 29 to 34 and extending support to thousands more pupils.

Information gathered by Ghanadistricts.com indicates that five additional schools were enrolled onto the programme as part of efforts to improve access to quality education and enhance pupil retention at the basic level.

The newly added beneficiary schools include Berekum M/A KG & Primary, Berekum SDA KG & Primary, Biadan R/C KG & Primary, Berekum Presby “A” KG & Primary, and Berekum Presby “B” KG & Primary.

With the expansion, the total number of beneficiary schools under the programme in the municipality has increased to 34, serving 11,629 pupils made up of 6,060 girls and 5,569 boys.

Municipal authorities indicated that the intervention has contributed significantly to increased enrolment, attendance and retention in beneficiary schools by providing pupils with nutritious meals during school hours.

The Assembly noted that the School Feeding Programme remains one of the government's key social intervention initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes while supporting local food production and livelihoods.

Education stakeholders in the municipality have welcomed the expansion, describing it as a major boost to efforts aimed at ensuring that every child has access to education in a conducive learning environment.

The Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting educational development programmes that improve learning outcomes and enhance the welfare of schoolchildren across the municipality.
