All shops were closed and sheds empty when Ghanadistricts.com visited Dome, Atomic, Taifa, Haatso and Agbogba markets where the fumigation exercises were ongoing.
Speaking in an interview, the Environmental Health Officer of Ga East Assembly, Charles Asabre Ampomah lauded the traders for their support and also adhering to the directives from government aimed at enhancing hygiene conditions in markets across the country.
He continued that, the fumigation exercise is being supervised by the Ministry Of Local Government and Rural Development as it has become necessary for the Ghana Health Service to take these necessary measures to safeguard the lives of the people who patronize the markets.
He was however quick to add that the chemical being used for the fumigation exercise would have no implication on edibles in the market.
“The chemical fully contains chlorine so there is no way some stuffs in the market will contaminate”, he said.
According to him traders would be allowed to go about normal trading activities by tomorrow. The exercise was heavily protected by some heavily built Military personnel to ensure sanity.
