The fund, which was initiated by Songtaba, a local Non-Governmental Organization based in the Northern Region, seeks to mobilize local resources for developmental purposes in the Northern Region and beyond.

Songtaba recognizes the increasing decline of international donor funding to Ghana and the subsequent impact of COVID across the globe, hence necessitating them and other Civil Society Organizations in Ghana and across countries who have largely depended on international funding to re-imagine their work and stimulate local fundraising.

In the light of this reality, Songtaba after several consultations, decided to undertake a bold initiative on establishing a social fund for the purpose of mobilizing local resources to fund its activities that connect well with these communities.

The Mayor  stated that Songtaba is one of the active local NGOs in the Northern region that is implementing projects that bring positive impact in the lives of women and children in the region.
He assured Songtaba that their efforts are being noticed by the Regional Coordinating Council and doors are open to more collaborations in securing basic rights for women, girls and the vulnerable groups in the Northern region.

He added that, the Faako Social Fund is to operate as a community social fund connecting past, present and future residence of all Ghanaians to vital community development projects and influencing all to contribute to improving the quality of life through regular giving. He applauded the initiative and entreated every well-meaning Ghanaian to sign up to it.

He pledged the support of the current government to this course, and personally pledged his support to supporting the social fund.
He harnessed the opportunity to thank the Songtaba and its partner, Star Ghana Foundation for leading this work and galvanizing public support to this critical cause.
