The Gbabshei Yam Market is expected to serve as a major converging point for yam business where farmers can directly bring their yam produce for wholesale and retailer.
The mayor of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA), Mr Musah Iddrisu who was at the inauguration together with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South Constituency, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu said the establishment of the market is to boost economic activities because when people know where to specifically get their products it motivates them to want to do business with such people. Thus it will attract people to come a buy and send to other parts of the country.
The mayor also indicated that the Yam Market located at Gbabshei in the metropolis has been estimated to be the biggest yam market in the West African sub-Region in the next five years due to its massive production.
Mr. Musah Iddrisu urged the traders to tidy up the market since it is where they make their ends meet and spent almost all their time because cleanliness is next to godliness.
