According to Mr Kusi, he formally engaged the National Food Buffer Stock Company and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to draw attention to the challenges confronting the farmers.
He emphasized the urgent need for immediate interventions to prevent their produce from going to waste, while also calling for sustainable, long-term solutions that would guarantee reliable market access and fair prices for their labor.
In response, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company assured him that the procurement of the rice produce would begin soon. This follows the release of funds by the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the exercise.
The MCE described this step as the beginning of a coordinated effort to support local farmers, reaffirming his commitment to work closely with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to ensure the farmers’ concerns are addressed comprehensively.
“The wellbeing of our hardworking farmers is central to food security and local economic development,” he said. “I am determined to ensure that their sacrifices and efforts are met with the support they truly deserve.”
The intervention is expected to provide relief to the Oda Nkwanta Rice Farmers Association, strengthening confidence in government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector.
