He polled 14 votes out of 21 votes cast by the assembly members, representing two thirds of the total votes cast.

Before the election, the Greater Accra Regional Deputy Minister, Nii Djangmah Vanderpuye, appealed to the assemblymen to vote overwhelmingly for the President's nominee.

He expressed concern that the absence of a substantive DCE for the past six months was affecting the smooth running of the assembly.

Members in the filled to capacity conference hall burst into wild jubilation moments after the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Kwame Amoah, announced the results.

Addressing the august house, Mr Maatey Teye assured the members that he was going to operate an open- door policy.

“I will be a listening DCE and my doors are opened to all,” he said.

Mr Maatey Teye said the time had come for the people in the district to work together to enhance the development of the area.

He said as a relatively new district, it was important that everyone contributed for the accelerated development of the area.

Mr Maatey Teye urged the assemblymen to co-operate with him at all times to enhance the smooth running of the district.

He expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, party executives, chiefs and the people of the area for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them.
