Ga East MCE launches operation wear mask campaign

Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra region, Madam Janet Tulasi-Mensah has launched a campaign that seeks to encourage Ghanaians to wear mask in a bid to help avoid the spread of the novel corona virus in the country.

The Campaign, dubbed “Operation wear mask”, is aimed at encouraging people to wear mask whenever they go out of their homes.

Speaking at a short ceremony to launch this all-important campaign, the MCE said, that the assembly is set to distribute about 10,000 pieces of face masks in various markets, lorry stations and other public places within the Municipality as part of the campaign.


She seized the opportunity to urged Ghanaians to strictly adhere to other preventive protocols outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) such as practicing social distancing, washing hands regularly and using alcohol based sanitizers whenever necessary.

She further appealed to Ghanaians to always endeavor to stay at home, insisting that “we should only go out for essential items like food, water or medication.”


Meanwhile, about 1,550 people have so far been infected in country with 11 deaths and 155 recoveries.

Greater Accra leads the chart with about 1,347 infected cases, followed by Ashanti Region – 69, Eastern Region – 57, Northern Region – 13, Oti Region – 17, Volta Region – 10, Central Region – 17, Upper West Region – 8 and Upper East Region – 8.


The rest are North East Region – 2, Western Region – 1 and Western North Region – 1 and North East -2.

So far, four regions of the country namely; Savannah Region, Bono Region, Ahafo Region and Bono East Region are yet to record any case of the deadly virus.
