The Assembly has increased public education campaigns, supported the provision of sanitation facilities and strengthened environmental health services to improve hygiene standards and protect public health. The interventions form part of broader efforts to achieve sustainable sanitation targets and improve living conditions in rural communities. The Assembly's environmental health programmes include community sensitisation, waste management activities and support for sanitation infrastructure development.

Nationally, Ghana continues to pursue the elimination of open defecation through community-led sanitation programmes and increased investments in household and public toilet facilities. International partners including UNICEF continue to support these efforts through sanitation financing and behavioural change initiatives.

Residents of the Berekum West District are set to benefit from improved healthcare services following government's decision to upgrade the Jinijini Health Centre into a fully-fledged polyclinic.

The announcement was made by the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, during a working visit to the district where he engaged traditional authorities, opinion leaders and residents on government's development agenda for the area.

According to the Regional Minister, the upgrade forms part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and bring essential medical services closer to residents, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.

He explained that the elevation of the facility to polyclinic status would enhance service delivery by expanding healthcare infrastructure, increasing staffing levels and introducing additional medical services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the district.

Hon. Akwaboa reiterated government's commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the Bono Region, stressing that access to quality healthcare remains a key pillar of the national development agenda.

The Minister assured residents that the district would continue to benefit from investments under government's development programmes, including improvements in roads, education and healthcare infrastructure.

The proposed upgrade has been welcomed by residents and local stakeholders, who believe the intervention will reduce referrals to neighbouring health facilities and improve healthcare outcomes for communities within Berekum West and adjoining districts.
