The visit was to mark "My First Day in School" initiated by the Ministry of Education.

Many new pupils in kindergarten and class one staring school for the first time were presented with a box each containing assorted toys, pens, pencils and exercise books to welcome them.

Some of the schools visited include the West African Senior High School (WASHS), Experimental Basic School in Adenta; the Madina Baba Yara Community M/A Primary School, the La-Nkwantanang M/A 1,2, 5 and 6 Primary Schools and the Saint Andrews BasicSchool in Madina.

Mr Franklyn Anku welcomed the pupils and urged them to learn hard, adding that it was important for them to remain in school in order to grow and become future leaders of the society.

Mrs Elizabeth Oduro-Mensah, Director of Education in the La-Nkwantanang/Madina, also urged parents to attend to the needs of their wards.

She expressed the hope that all these pupils who had begun their education would stay and be able to write their BECE exams in years to come.

Mrs Afia Darkwa Amanor, the Liaison Officer for the Edukan Foundation, told the GNA that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Netherlands Embassy worked together to bring the gifts to the pupils.

In spite of all the excitement, the GNA saw some pupils crying because their parents had brought them to school and left them in the hands of strangers.
