ATEBUBU: NHIA engages stakeholders
The Atebubu-Amantin municipal office of the National Health Insurance Authority NHIA has held a day’s stakeholders meeting in Atebubu.

The meeting aimed at assessing the performance of the Health Insurance Scheme in the municipality, identify challenges and chart a common course for the good of the scheme.
The Brong Ahafo regional director of the NHIA Mr. Joseph Mensah said government in a bid to expand coverage of the scheme and to cover more of the poor and vulnerable in society has decided to enroll all school children currently enjoying the School Feeding Programme and all Livelihood Empowerment Againt Poverty LEAP beneficiaries onto the scheme free of charge.
The Atebubu-Amantin municipal chief executive Hon. Edward Owusu stressed the importance of the scheme to quality healthcare delivery.
He said in a bid to make the scheme more effective, government has paid an amount of GHC1,401,337.00 to some service providers in the municipality this year.
Whiles pledging the assembly’s support for health delivery by constructing more CHPS compounds he urged service providers to adopt a more positive attitude towards their clients.
The municipal scheme manager, Mr. Kwasi Alhassan took the gathering through revenue mobilization, facility attendance and cost, the claims administration process, challenges, and some proposed remedies.
He enumerated some of the problems facing the scheme as: network disruptions, breakdown of equipment due to overstretching, delay in renewals, difficulty in reaching most communities as well as inadequate office space.
He proposed the introduction of radio internet connection instead of the current V-sat system and the acquisition of a new BMS machine to help remedy some of the challenges facing his outfit.
The municipal director of health Mr. Jacob Munukpa who chaired the function urged service providers to properly scrutinize their claims before submission to the NHIA to reduce the incidence of deductions from these claims.
Stakeholders were drawn from the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, the National Commission on Civic Education, the Information Services Department and some selected assembly members.
