AMANSIE W: Farmers honoured

Twenty-eight hardworking farmers were honoured at this year’s farmers’ day in Manso Abiram in the Amansie West District.

The overall best farmer went to a 53 year old farmer Mr. George Asamoah from Manso Abodom

For his prize he received a motorcycle, 4 pairs of Wilmington boots, knapsack spraying machine, 6cutlass,soap and certificate of honour.

The District chief executive for Amansie West Mr Alex Kwame Bonsu also used the occasion to say that the Government is doing its best to promote farming as a business entity, with various interventions that have been put in place to help link business to Agricultural as a means to address the youth unemployment in the district

He said Government through cocoa board provided free 40,000 bags of fertilizers 38,000 liters of insecticide and 43,680 boxes of fungicides to improve cocoa production in the district for 2015/2016 crop year.

He urged the youth to take advantage of the various opportunities being created in the sector since the country is moving away from subsistence agriculture to commercial and this promises more profit to farmers.
