AMANSIE W: 2014 National best farmer receives 3-bedroom house

A ceremony was held to present award of three bedroom house to the 2014 National Best Farmer, Mr. George Asamoah Amankwah, 51years at Manso Nkwanta.

The three bedroom fully finished edifice in the serene and natural Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti Region was constructed within a total budget of USD100.000.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Minister for Food and Agriculture,Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna said 2014 marked the 30th anniversary of the noble initiative of setting aside a day in honour of our gallant farmers, through whose effort the men and women of our nation continue to fed. Also through their effort, the nation’s industries continue to receive the much needed raw materials for critical production.

He therefore take the opportunity to welcome all those present to witness the handing over of this luxurious 3 bedroom estate to Mr George Asamoah Amankwah, the proud winner of the 2014 National Best Farmer Award.

The Minister assured him of how proud and appreciative the country was of their contributions and also commended the various institutions and individuals who have provided attractive prizes to enrich the awards of our hardworking farmers and fishers each year.

The Ashanti Regional Minister Mr. John Alexander Ackon in his remarks said one aspect of the best farmer award scheme is the criteria that take account of farmer’s acceptance and adoption of agriculture extension services and the adoption of modern scientific methods of farm practices. He implore farmers to seek assistance of the extension officers to improve their tied and reduce post harvest loses.

He encouraged Mr. George Asamoah Amankwah to continue to work hard and explore new avenues to improve his farming practices.

The managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank Limited, Mr Daniel Asiedu on his part said the sponsorship of the grand prize of a fully furnished three bedroom house to the ultimate winner at the preferred location of the winner has become an ADB heritage. He indicated that although the bank is currently going through some critical transition, they hope to sustain this gesture into the future.

He said the bank shall continue to set aside a budget of US$100,000 for the cause.

The 2014 best farmer in his appreciation said he is grateful to the government, the good citizens of Ghana and the sponsorship for their continue support to
farmers and urged them to keep it up. Mr Asamoah appealed to the youth in the country to get into farming activities to earn a living.
