The market was named after the Queen mother, Naa Amui, by the Assembly, in recognition of her contribution to the development of the area.

Speaking at a short renaming ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Albert Boakye Okyere said there will be frequent communication with traders on matters of concern to generate the necessary feedback, and also asked them not to allocate any land or shed in the market to a third party, without due process.

He cautioned traders against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the market, adding that the assembly will soon provide them with waste containers to ensure proper sanitation in the market.

He also advised that they maintain a healthy relationship with the Assembly, conduct prudent business and pay their contribution to the Assembly for development projects.

The Chief of the area, Nii Anang Adjor, appealed to the traders selling outside the market to move into the main market.
