MAMPONG: NCCE holds inter party dialogue towards peaceful election

The National Commission for Civic Education has organized a one day Inter Party Dialogue Committee meeting for political parties as well as other relevant organizations who have stakes in the upcoming elections to be conducted on December 7, 2016.

Participants included registered political parties in the municipality, faith based organizations in the municipality, civil society organization and CBOs, independent government institutions (EC, CHRAJ, MEDIA etc), security services, other identifiable groups in the municipality and the Mampong Municipal Assembly key staff.

The Municipal Director of NCCE called on the Electoral Commission to enforce the electoral rules and regulations and the political parties' code of conduct to achieve a free, fair and violence-free election.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Kojo Aboas urged members of political parties to be decorous in their campaign platforms to ensure peace.
 
He said there is the need to be tolerant and accept results of elections to avoid electoral conflicts saying such conflicts could extend to our neighbouring countries and affect trade.

Another important issue of concern was to avoid tribal politics; instead deal with issues for as politics is all about differences in ideas.

The police commander on his part assured the people of the police service’s preparedness towards ensuring peaceful election in 2016, adding that the police service has enough personnel for the election.

He however sounded a word of caution to any person who would want to foment any trouble to rethink of his plans as the police will deal with him according to the law.
