Hohoe ready for District Level Elections on Tuesday

Residents in the various electoral areas in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed readiness for the impending District Level Elections (DLEs) slated for tomorrow, Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

They said though publicity was low they were following the processes keenly and ready to vote for their assembly members.

Mr Sevor-Gbanaglo Hope, a Principal Environmental Health Assistant, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that public education and sensitisation on the DLEs was overshadowed by the referendum, which was later cancelled but many were still enthusiastic about the DLEs.

Madam Hindatu Musa, a trader, said she would vote for an aspirant who was development-oriented and be able to help tackle sanitation issues by providing dustbins in the community.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Martin Ayiih, the Hohoe Divisional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that security officers would be deployed to 150 polling stations in the Afadzato South and the Hohoe Municipal Assemblies to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.

He cautioned the public to adhere to all election regulations to help security officers in maintaining peace and order.

Mr Ayiih advised against people loitering around polling stations and said voters should leave after voting and return at 1700 hours to listen to the results.

GNA’s checks at the Hohoe Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission revealed that all materials needed for the DLEs have been received.

More than 270,000electorate are expected to cast their ballots in all the 17 Electoral Areas with about 58 aspirants contesting to become assembly members.

One hundred and two (102) are also contesting to become Unit Committee members in the Hohoe Municipality.
