The new CHPS compound was funded by the Builsa South District under the District Development Facility (DDF) and has a maternity ward, Reproductive and Children Health UNITY (RCH), Changing rooms, Out Patient Department (OPD).
Tangoba Abayage, the Upper East Regional Minister, who commissioned the new facility Tuesday, said maternal and child health should be prioritized to eradicate the current high rate of maternal mortality in Ghana.
She said the CHPS will help improve maternal and neonatal health in the area, as well as make health care delivery accessible to people and especially, expectant women and children in the community.
She said: "I am glad that we also have this project here. What this means is that health delivery will be accessible to the people in this community. People do not have to walk far to access health care, especially, our women and our children. We know that those who bear the brunt of health issues in our communities are women and children. When they are pregnant the travel very far to access health services and because of that some doesn’t even go at all".
"One of the reasons we have high maternal and infant mortality rate is because of the lack of access to health services. This will definitely help reduce maternal and infant mortality in this community".
District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Daniel Kwame Gariba, who took the Minister round her tour of the district called on community members to make use of the health facility.
He urged them to keep faith with the Nana Addo government more life-transforming policies and projects.
Tangoba Abayage later visited the Sandema Senior High School (Sansec) where she inspected work on a six-unit classroom block and storey block being constructed to support eliminate the accommodation challenge in the school.
