The event, which is scheduled for September 25 through to October, 2023, promises to display the rich and colourful cultural heritage of the Akuapem people under the theme: Eco-Tourism for Sustainable Development.

In a speech read on his behalf, Paramount chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, described the celebration of the Odwira festival as a moment for the people of Akuapem and Ghana as a whole “to tap into all tourism potentials not only to showcase and place Okuapeman on the world map, but also use Eco-tourism as a vehicle for sustainable development.”

He added that the 2023 Odwira offers opportunities for local businesses, organizations, and artisans to showcase their product and services to the rest of the world.

He continued by urging participants to embrace the spirit of the community by connecting with like-minded individuals to discover unique offerings, and support the growth of the area.

He assured that the Traditional council together with personnel from the Ghana Police Service is on high alert to ensure the safety of attendees throughout the weeklong celebration.

“Nananom (chiefs) in conjunction with the Security Agencies will ensure that lives and properties are adequately protected before, during and after the odwira festival”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Okuapem Traditional Council has announced that stringent measures have been put place to address issues of indecent exposure, adding that “Nananom (Chiefs) would not countenance any indecent exposure by way of dressing and we shall ensure that inappropriate dress codes are not paraded on our corridors.
