The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr Sadas Kyeremateng, has drawn attention to the need to maintain fire safety standards at workplaces to prevent disasters.
He said it was important to heed the advice of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and put in place adequate measures not only to prevent fire outbreaks but minimize the damage when they occur.
Mr Kyeremateng said this when he toured some companies and offices in the municipality to assess their fire fighting preparedness.
He called for proper handling of electrical appliances and to see to it that faulty ones are promptly repaired.
"Let us become more alert and save the nation from losing huge sums of money to fires."
At the Amponsah Effah Pharmaceutical at Fumesua, Mr Reymond K. Mensah, the Internal Auditor, complained about indiscriminate sale of
industrial lands by some chiefs for residential development.
He therefore appealed for government’s intervention to stop this.
Mr Mensah pledged the company’s readiness to work with NADMO to prevent fires in the area as the nation entered the dry season.
Juaben Oil Mills, Kwamo DBS Industries, Alhaji Salia Enterprise, BRITAK, and Dr T. Bone Metal works were some of the companies he visited.
