The District Chief Executive for Nanumba South District, Alhaji Seidu Amidu has called for greater co-operation and a common vision between revenue collectors and tax payers, to advance the development of the area.
He also implored revenue collectors to spend more time with the people, to identify and find solutions to problems hampering revenue mobilisation in the district.
Alhaji Amidu, who was speaking at a training workshop organised for revenue collectors at Wulensi, said building a strong relationship between the payers and the receivers, was the only way to ensure effective revenue mobilisation in the area.
The workshop was to equip them with the requisite skills to help improve upon revenue mobilisation, and to enhance their communication skills to interact effectively with the people, to change their perception towards honouring their tax obligations.
The DCE said it was incumbent on the revenue collectors to demonstrate a high sense of patriotism in the discharge of their duties, which he hoped would go a long way to help the revenue mobilisation system for the area grow.
Mr. Amidu noted that that his administration had put in place some
interventions to create an enabling environment for revenue collectors to mobilise enough revenue for development, and called on them to take the training serious, in order to apply the knowledge they had gained to improve upon their work, to enable the district meet its revenue target.
The Chief Local Government Inspector for Northern Region, Elifa Acquah, who took the participants through some basic principles of revenue mobilisation, warned them to desist from issuing temporary receipts to tax payers, because it was against the laws of the Financial Memorandum.
He therefore called on the revenue collectors to team up with stakeholders, to ensure that they improve upon the revenue mobilization base, to generate more money for the District Assembly.
The Deputy Coordinating Director for the Nanumba South District Assembly, Osman Sibeku, who was also a Training Coordinator, appealed to all stakeholders involved in revenue mobilisation in the district, to wake up and live up to expectations, in order to ensure that the revenue mobilisation derive of the assembly is raised to a higher level to enhance development.
