The Upper West Region branch of the National Association of Graduate Teachers has ordered all its members in the region to boycott all academic and co-curricular activities starting from next Monday.
The association said it regretted the pain parents and students go through when the academic calendar is disrupted but stressed they deemed it necessary to embark on the strike because that appears to be the language that politicians understand.
The Regional chairman of the association, Kalistus Sunyeri Haruna made this known at a news conference in Wa.
Mr. Kalistus Sunyeri Haruna said the press conference was necessitated by the seeming reluctance of the Ghana Education Service and the ministry of education to listen and respond to some pertinent issues sent to them in a communiqué after their annual delegate’s conference held in August.
He said no responsibility of leadership is more fundamental than the responsibility of promoting the highest interest and welfare of its members.
When quizzed about a meeting scheduled by the education ministry and the leadership of NAGRAT to resolve the matter, Mr. Kalistus said he didn’t believe anything positive will come out from the said meeting.
