The Brong Ahafo region is the place to be from now till November 7th when it would climax its 50th anniversary celebration with a grand durbar.

The Brong Ahafo region is the place to be from now till November 7th when it would climax its 50th anniversary celebration with a grand durbar.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts, the Presiding Member for Sunyani West, Hon. Kwame Agyenim-Boateng indicated that the region has great investment potentials.

He said the golden jubilee celebration will show case to the world how far the region had come in terms of development adding that the Brong-Ahafo region is the hub of food production in the country.

He therefore called on all prospective investors to be part of the golden jubilee celebration of the region to help put Brong Ahafo on the global market.

Hon. Agyenim-Boateng who is also a member of the anniversary celebration steering committee indicated that a number of activities had been lined up to make the celebration worthwhile and one to be remembered.

The activities include an awards night to reward stewarts in the region, health walk, essay competition for pupils in the area.

Other activities include a beauty contest on October 10, tree planting exercise, trade fair exhibition, cultural festival, musical rendevous, street jam for the youth as well as public lectures.

Additionally, the Regional Minister Hon. Nyamekye Marfo  will fete school children in the entire region.

The climax of all activities will be held on November 7, with a grand durbar of chiefs which include 45 paramount chiefs and their entourage as well as four divisional chiefs with the President of the Republic, H.E John Evans Atta-Mills crowning it all.

The Brong Ahafo Region, formerly a part of the Ashanti Region, was created in April 1959. It covers an area of 39,557 square kilometres and shares boundaries with the Northern Region to the north, the Ashanti and Western Regions to the south, the Volta Region to the east, the Eastern Region to the southeast and La Cote d’Ivoire to the west.

It has 19 administrative districts, with Sunyani as the regional capital. The region lies in the forest zone and is a major cocoa and timber producing area. The northern part of the region lies in the savannah zone and is a major grain- and tuber-producing region.
