The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Sumani Nayina, has sworn in Mr. Fuseini Alhassan, 49, a former officer of the Audit Service in Salaga in the East Gonja District as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Gushiegu District Assembly in the Northern Region.

Mr. Alhassan has been sworn into office against the background of the Gushiegu Assembly’s failure on two occasions to endorse the President’s nominee for the position.    

The Minister noted that for a long time Gushiegu had been divided along political and chieftaincy lines, and this had made it difficult for government to agree on the appointment of a DCE for the area.    

He advised the DCE to run an open door administration in order to reconcile the people irrespective of their political or chieftaincy affiliations to enable him pursue the development agenda for the district.    

Mr. Nayina further called on the Assembly members and the people of Gushiegu to cooperate with the DCE for the development of the district.    

Mr. Alhassan on his part pledged to cooperate with the Member of Parliament and the people, to ensure the peace and development of the district.    

He promised to make education, roads and the provision of other social amenities his priorities.
