The District Chief Executive nominee for Kwahu East has denied tears he shed at an assembly meeting to approve his nomination were for the fear of losing the ballot.
According to Samuel Asamoah, his tears were for his people who risked losing a competent and selfless servant in him.
The Ghanaian Times Newspaper in its May 4, 2009 edition captured the nominee crying ahead of the second round of elections at the district assembly.
Samuel Asamoah failed to garner the two-thirds majority needed to approve him as the DCE for the area, polling just 14 out of 26 votes.
In an interview with Joy News, Samuel Asamoah accused some of the assembly members of manipulation, adding he was only “imagining what could have happened if I lost for the second time.”
He insisted his tears were not out of fear of losing the election, adding “when you have people at heart that is what happens.”
The tears appeared to have done the trick for Asamoah, who overturned the earlier verdict, polling, 20 out of 25 votes cast.
