Response towards registration for the National Health Insurance Scheme is said to be encouraging in the Saboba District in the Northern Region.

Remarkably enough, the first quarter of 2008 has seen a significant improvement compared to the previous years.

By December 2007, total registered members of the scheme stood at 27,956 compared to 19,246 in the first quarter of 2008. This brought the total registered members to 44,200 with 27,883 of them issued with cards.

The District Scheme Manager, Mr Awusah Joseph expressed optimism about higher membership by the second quarter of the year.

The scheme collected GH¢51,837.96 premium and made payment to the tune of GH¢1,060,149.57.
